Serenity Tattoos – Tattoos For Sobriety

Serenity tattoos are one of the more popular types of tattoos that a person may choose for a tattoo design. A serenity tattoo, like all tattoos, will have a different meaning for each person that is individual only to them, but a common meaning in each serenity tattoo is something that shows peace and tranquility. It is not uncommon for people to obtain serenity tattoos after undergoing a difficult event in their life and then coming to terms with it. The act of getting a tattoo and permanently marking your body is an act of faith that their new-found serenity will remain with them and perhaps even be strengthened in weak moments by their body art.

Serenity Tattoos

Sobriety tattoos are one of the types of serenity tattoos that are commonly drawn and inked by artists. Usually obtained by someone who has recently broken out of an addictive behavior such as drugs or alcohol, sobriety tattoos are both a symbol of triumph over the addictive behavior as well as a reminder about the past. Tattoos are permanent without a significant investment in laser removal and with sobriety tattoos it is this very permanent nature that the recovering addict can hope to embody. With the application of the permanent are to their body the person is making a serious commitment to their new life of sobriety. This adding of a permanent mark to the body can be a constant reminder of their past as well as what has been overcome.

Some Common Serenity Symbols Used In These Types Of Tattoos Are Angels

The application of the tattoo could even have physical significance to help stop an addict from potentially using again. For example, a heroin addict could obtain a tattoo on their inner forearm near the inner elbow where if there was a temptation to use again the tattoo would be there to face them. Some common serenity symbols used in these types of tattoos are angels, doves, cherry blossoms, the date of breaking an addiction, a symbol of a drug of choice, or the text of the serenity prayer. Of course these are just some of the most common choices as there are other serenity symbols used since each tattoo is individual and many people request something with a uniquely personal meaning or a custom text that they find personally inspiring.

To understand some of the serenity symbols it is only necessary to think about popular cultural interpretations of some of these symbols. For example, angels and doves are well-known to be considered as symbols of peace and tranquility. Cherry blossoms are common in thoughts about peaceful meditations especially in a Japanese inspired piece.

For a recovering addict having their date of becoming clean and sober or a depiction of their drug of choice can be of great motivation for staying clean. Text symbols such as the serenity prayer mark the owner’s body with the words of a prayer specifically devoted to bringing serenity and inner peace. The choice of symbol for a tattoo of this nature can and should be of personal meaning to the owner and using a combination of common symbols and custom ideas can be mixed for a unique tattoo.
