Wooden Cross Tattoos

There are many different types of tattoos ranging from tribal symbols and dragons to pictures of a loved one. Every tattoo has meaning, whether that meaning is related to religion, physical appearance and or cultural background. There is one type of tattoo that is seen universally and has been around for a very long time. The Wooden cross tattoo has become very common for both men and women regardless of their religious beliefs. The reason for such a large number of people getting a wooden cross tattoo is because of their many different meanings that appeal to a large number of people. The most obvious reason behind wooden cross tattoos is the religion, mainly Christianity. Christianity has brought this symbol into the public view and is one of the most recognized symbols in the world. Many people get wooden cross tattoos in remembrance of a loved one and sometimes they add the name and or date as well.

The Cross Is The Most Universal And Ancient Symbol In The World

Before the cross was used as a holy symbol it was used in a cruel method of execution called crucifixion. The victims would be tied to a wooden cross and nailed by their wrist and feet and then left to hang until they were dead. Christianity later became a state religion and at that time crucifixion was abolished. The cross was part of the Aztec, Greek and Egyptian culture for many centuries and pagan religions that existed before Christianity. Many of these cultures practiced the art of tattooing, therefore it is probable that wooden cross tattoos are as old as the cross design itself. The wooden cross tattoo clearly has been a significant symbol both in the past and present.

The Celtic Cross Is One Of The Oldest Cross Tattoo Designs

There are several types of wooden cross tattoos. The Celtic cross is one of the oldest cross tattoo designs. The Celtic cross first appeared in the 5th century where it was a symbol of Celtic faith and heritage. This popular symbol was very popular in Celtic communities, such as Ireland and Scotland. Now the Celtic cross is used to symbolize Christianity and religion. This design has knots, loops and mazes. Knots stand for the link between the physical and spiritual life, the loops represent the never ending circle of life. Out of all the wooden cross tattoos the Celtic cross is common for those who want to represent life and all the different paths we take.

Gothic wooden cross tattoos are also beginning to become more popular than ever before. The gothic cross is closely related to a religious wooden cross but they have been altered to fit the changing culture. Many of these tattoos have snakes, dragons or barbed wire intertwined around the cross. The reason for this is to make sure that these tattoos are easily distinguished from traditional religious wooden cross tattoos. The Gothic wooden cross tattoos usually have a darker meaning associated with them. They are typically associated with pain or anger and can also represent the Gothic culture.
